Typing Speed Test

Take a free typing test to measure your words per minute (WPM) and accuracy. Minimal, distraction-free – just start typing.

Shortcut: Tab then Enter, or Esc

Find out how fast you type. The timer starts with your first keystroke; type the words shown as accurately as you can. When time runs out you will see your speed in words per minute (WPM) and your accuracy.

What is a good typing speed?

The average person types around 40 WPM. 60–70 WPM is good for office work, and professional typists reach 80–100 WPM or more. Accuracy matters as much as speed – fixing mistakes costs more time than typing slightly slower.

WPM is calculated the standard way: every 5 correctly typed characters count as one word.

Questions

How is WPM calculated?

Correctly typed characters divided by 5, divided by the minutes elapsed. Mistakes are not counted.

How can I improve my typing speed?

Learn touch typing with all ten fingers, keep your eyes on the screen, and practise for 10–15 minutes a day.

Does it work on phones?

Yes, but phone keyboards are slower, so compare scores on the same device.
